El Salvador is the smallest country in Central America that is worth visiting. It strikes with its wonderful volcanic landscapes and hospitality and openness of the people.
Here the rainforests, mountains and volcanoes mingle with the best preserved remains of Maya civilization. The peculiarity of the place is the ruins of the Hoya-de-Siren that were buried under the volcanic ashes around 1400 years ago.
The most picturesque coastal resort town is San-Sebastian.
Even though the capital San-Salvador is a crowded industrial cente here you can still find cathedrals and various colonial buildings.
The main places of interest for the tourists here are archeological monuments, national parks and volcanic lakes. There are many resort places right at the volcanic and thermal spring sites that provide various spa-services.
The Pacific Ocean coast has numerous wonderful beaches and the waters are very attractive for those who like surfing.
Central and main place of San-Salvador is Cathedral-Metropolitana containing the tomb of the national hero – archbishop Oscar Romero.
In the center of the colonial part there is a picturesque Parque-Libertad and several vibrant churches.
There are also some interesting museums. First of all Archeological Tazumal museum, Nature History museum, Ethnological museum of doctor D.H. Guzman, Museum of folk culture and others.
As for the climate, El Salvador is situated in tropical zone with two opposite seasons.
San-Salvador is also a theatrical center in Central America, for there are numerous theaters where opera and ballet, as well as dramatic plays are put.
