Costa Rica is quite an unusual country. There is a variety of natural systems. In just a few hours you can watch how evergreen forest switches to a volcanic wasteland stretching for hundreds of miles. Savannah and rain forests of the mountain slopes, the long sandy beaches of the coasts and extended banana and coffee plantations - all this give country the name of the "Costa Rica" that in Spanish means "Rich Coast". A great number of national parks, natural caves (including underwater), various historical places and monuments, archaeological sites and preserved Indian villages, waterfalls, scenic mountain and river valleys are here.
The San Jose, which is located at an altitude of 1155 m above sea level; is famous for its mild climate. Visit another important city in the country - Alajuela (here is an interesting farm for the breeding of butterflies and Museum Juan Santamaria in a former prison), Poás volcano (2705 m), the Zoo and entertainment complex "El Bosque Encantado" in La Garita there is a farm of butterflies.
Windsurfing is cultivated on lake Arenal, situated at an altitude of 1700 m above sea level - the wind here is quite strong and constant.
Best places for scuba diving are hard to reach. Among them we can list Isla del Coco and Kako island, the beaches of Playa Flamingo, Playa Hunkel, Nosara and Playa-Lapite.
Pacific coast, from the Gulf of Papagayo to Golfito, known for its superb areas for sport fishing. Sailfish, Marlin, tuna and Wahoo - traditional objects of local trophy fishing.
